For some thirty years, Poppe Cattle Company has ranched across four states from in the high–country of Colorado and Wyoming, to the Sandhills of Nebraska and the eastern Montana prairie.  With the varying environments and elevations, it’s a testament that an ideal cow for any ranch or feedlot is one that survives, thrives, and superbly performs - where ever she may be, from sea–level to 11,000 ft elevation.

The genetics in this composite program is the product of disciplined female selection, commitment to AI practices and records, as well as extended performance testing – all spanning decades. It's also been our intent to produce cattle with high, predictable levels of hybrid vigor with low PAP scores.

There’s immense value of low-pap cattle in any cow herd.  It simply increases the marketability and value of cattle to work anywhere in the world and out-perform pen-mates in any feed program.

While low-elevation ranches are a rare place to see Brisket Disease … those calves migrating to a feed yard will face the same challenges as their higher-elevation mountain pen-mates as they mature and fatten through the finishing process.

As calves get heavier in the feed yard, the heart works harder in the same spirit under higher-elevation pressure and duress.  Calves that pap lower — survive better in the yard, feed more efficiently and grade higher.

 

When it comes to the dams in our bull program, we’re dedicated to selections and matings that insure this trait as well as substantial hybrid-vigor, exceptional female characteristics and structure, easy-fleshing with a docile temperament - all packaged in a moderate, environmental and feed-bill-friendly frame.

As of 2017, PCC operates solely in eastern Montana.  Vince & Lori reside and operate the south ranch, in Plevna, Montana.  Jake, Bree and their boys, Tate & Trace operate the Cabin Creek Ranch, Fallon, Montana.  Cade Sampson (grandson/nephew) is finishing college and working for the outfit as well.
